Getting to the Scottish Borders by Road

The Scottish Borders is easy to reach from every direction, with major routes from all directions touching its boundaries. Leave behind the motorways and ring roads and in little more than an hour by car from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle and Carlisle you'll discover that driving is a pleasure again.

The four major trunk roads leading to and within the Borders are; the A1 in the East the A7 and A68 in the central Borders and also the A697 from the South. There are many minor roads that lead to other areas within the region, which are within easy reach of one another.


By Bus
The region's bus service operator is First Edinburgh and it links all the major towns within the Borders. National Express links the Borders to Newcastle and beyond, it leaves from Jedburgh main car park, tickets can be obtained from Jedburgh Visitor Information Centre, by Tel: 01835 863170, or by emailing bordersinfo@visitscotland.com. Local bus services are covered mostly by First, Munro's of Jedburgh or Perrymans contact Visitor Information Centres for times and routes.
