The Scottish Borders are within 2 hours driving time from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle railway stations. A journey planner can be obtained on the Traveline Scotland web site below that provides rail times for the respective stations and lines. There are approximately 15 trains running daily between Edinburgh and Kings Cross and over 10 between Carlisle and Euston. The London to Berwick-upon-Tweed (the nearest point of access) takes only 4 hours and the Borders is only 10mins-1½ hours away depending on where you are going.
There are good bus links from each station and there is also a rail link bus service from Carlisle into the Scottish Borders, details of linking services can also be found on the Traveline Scotland site below
