Museums and Galleries

The Borders‘ rich tapestry of history is brought to life in the region‘s museums - some concentrating on local industries like textiles or fishing, others a particular place or person, or simply the way of life of our forefathers. Reconstruction, photographs, maps, records, implements and other exhibits tell an absorbing story - and modern methods such as slide shows and video films illustrate the Borders‘ colourful heritage. The past is all around as you enter the chilly cell of the town jail in Jedburgh, the fisherman‘s life in Eyemouth or a 19th century ironmonger‘s shop in Selkirk.

Drumlanrig‘s Tower, opened in Hawick in Easter 1995, is a romantic monument with a dark history, woven into the fabric of Hawick, and a stronghold of cross-border warfare, its intriguing story unfolds as visitors are led through time from the Middle Ages to the Tower‘s eventual conversion to a gracious hotel in the 1930s.
