One of the most picturesque regions in Scotland, the Scottish Borders makes the perfect setting for golf. An area previously recognised for its holiday 9 holes has flourished and now boasts a host of outstanding 18 hole golf courses, including The Roxburghe, home of the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open.
Legendary golfers such as Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie and Tony Jacklin have found the Scottish Borders courses no easy feat. As the address 'Vertish Hill' suggests the Hawick course is not for the fainthearted. However, upon reaching the summit, the player is rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding Borders countryside.
Every course has a feature that will remain with you, whether it be the 'Stank' at Kelso, 'Everest' at Minto or the panoramic views over the North Sea at Eyemouth. The par three, 170 yard sixth hole at Eyemouth Golf Course was recently voted Britain's most extraordinary golf hole. Cardrona, the newest addition to the Borders, has been labelled the 'Gleneagles of the South', once you play it you will realise why.
To escape from the pressures of modern day life, golf in the Borders is the answer. The only stress will be choosing which of the 21 golf courses to play as the visiting golfer is definitely spoilt for choice.
