Where trees and hills abound, mountain bikers won't be far away. The Scottish Borders is the regular haunt of all kinds of bikers on trailquest rides, cross-country trails or high-octane downhilling. If you want to put your rough-riding skills to the test, any of the following locations will provide some of the best outdoor workouts in the country.
Run by Forestry Commission Scotland at Innerleithen in the Tweed Valley, the Traquair XC, has already hosted the Scottish Downhill Mountain Bike Championships to great acclaim.
Excellent forest cycle routes are found in many of the Scottish Borders forests run by Forestry Commission Scotland including Newcastleton, Glentress, Swinnie, Craik, Elibank, Yair and Traquair; all providing a good alternative venue for both novices and the more advanced rider.
